Turkish Defense Industry Raises Concerns in Greece

The rapid growth of Turkey’s defense industry has become a serious cause of concern in Greece. According to Ekathimerini, the swift expansion of Turkey’s production capacities and the active promotion of national weapons systems are strengthening Ankara’s military influence in the region.
Greek analysts point out that Turkey is not only expanding its own arsenal but also actively exporting defense products to third countries. This increases its role in the international arms market and reinforces its political standing.
In Greece, it is emphasized that such trends create new challenges for regional stability and complicate dialogue within NATO, where both countries are members of the alliance.
Experts note that the main concern is not only the quantitative growth of armaments but also the qualitative leap – Turkey is actively developing drone technologies, air defense systems, and warships.
Official Athens is calling for diplomatic efforts to ease tensions but acknowledges that the balance of power in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean is gradually shifting in Ankara’s favor.
