Zas assesses situation on border of Armenia and Azerbaijan

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is concerned about the continuing instability on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, said CSTO boss Stanislav Zas.
"For obvious reasons, we are primarily concerned about the growing crisis phenomena on the borders of the CSTO member states. Of course, this is the preservation of the entire spectrum of challenges and threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan, the continuing instability on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the intensification of attempts by the United States and European countries to put pressure on the CSTO member states - Russia and Belarus, the situation in southeastern Ukraine," he said.
According to him, the organization closely monitors the development of the situation in the South Caucasus and is in constant contact with the Armenian side. The Secretary General recalled that he returned from Yerevan a few days ago, where he thoroughly discussed the current situation with the leadership of Armenia.
“I highly appreciate the Russian efforts, which is carrying out a very important peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh and, with the consent of the parties, actually assumed the role of a mediator in settling the consequences of the bloody war that broke out last year. These efforts of Russia made it possible to stop the hostilities, save a huge number of lives, restore the areas affected by the hostilities in a short time, provide their residents with food, clothing and medicines," the official said.
