Fire at Primorsk Port: Drone Attack Hits Key Russian Oil Hub

A fire broke out at a fuel reservoir in one of Russia’s largest oil ports — Primorsk on the Baltic Sea — following a drone attack, underscoring the ongoing pressure on the country’s energy infrastructure.

The incident was reported by the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, who said that a fuel tank caught fire on the port’s premises as a result of the drone strike.

Primorsk is Russia’s largest western oil export hub and plays a key role in supplying crude to global markets. The port can export more than 1 million barrels of oil per day and serves as a major route for shipments of Russia’s Urals crude and diesel fuel.

According to preliminary information, emergency services quickly responded to contain the fire. No casualties or injuries had been reported at the time of publication.

The attack on Primorsk comes amid a series of strikes targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure, including oil depots, refineries, and port terminals. The port has been targeted before, highlighting its strategic vulnerability.

Experts note that such strikes are aimed at limiting Russia’s export capacity and increasing pressure on its energy sector, which remains a key source of state revenue. Repeated attacks also heighten the risk of supply disruptions and impact global energy markets.
