Russia Ready to Remove Enriched Uranium from Iran

Moscow has announced its
readiness to remove excess enriched uranium from Iran and convert it into fuel
for civilian nuclear power plants.
This move could play a key role in de-escalating nuclear tensions between Iran
and the United States, as well as supporting the preservation of
non-proliferation agreements.
According
to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the country is offering its
technical capabilities and expertise to carry out the project under
international supervision. The uranium is expected to be processed at Russian
facilities into fuel assemblies unsuitable for military use.
Amid
ongoing disputes between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear program,
Moscow’s involvement may represent a rare diplomatic gesture toward easing
tensions. Russia has previously participated in similar missions under the
Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which the U.S. withdrew from in
2018.
Iranian
officials have yet to issue an official response to the proposal. Meanwhile,
Washington has expressed cautious optimism, noting that any steps toward
transparency and disarmament will be reviewed in coordination with the IAEA.
