Azerbaijan-Armenia: State Dept Says 'Worked Continuously' With Sides Over Humanitarian Assistance Issue

The United States said on Tuesday it has worked "continuously" with Azerbaijan and Armenia over the past several weeks to allow humanitarian assistance to reach the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
Vedant Patel, State Department principal deputy spokesperson, refrained from getting into specific engagements when asked by TURAN's correspondent about Washington's latest communication with Baku and Yerevan.
However, Patel went on to add, "This is something that we are going to remain deeply engaged on.... We reiterate our call to immediately reopen the Lachin corridor to humanitarian, commercial, and passenger traffic."
He emphasized; "We are deeply concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the continued blockage of food, medicine, and other essential goods."
Patel's comments came just as the bipartisan Congressional human rights commission is poised to hold a public hearing on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh this afternoon, Washington time.
The hearing held by the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission will feature the former ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo and Columbia University's David Phillips.
