Open dialogue between Yerevan, Baku key to progress – U.S. State Dept
Open dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a key to achieving progress, a U.S. Department of State official, who wished to remain anonymous, told VOA’s Armenian Service.
"We are encouraged by the continued engagement and progress in negotiations between the parties on a peace treaty, including the meeting between the two leaders in Chisinau,” the official said in a statement on Thursday.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held fresh talks on the margins of the second European Political Community summit in Chisinau, Moldova, on Thursday.
“Open dialogue is key to achieving progress. We will continue to promote dialogue and support the parties as they work toward a lasting and dignified peace," the source added.
At a meeting with the local Armenian community in Moldova, Pashinyan said that the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers were due to meet in Washington on June 12.
