Alen Gevondyan: The United States are our important partner, but Iran is not less important

"Official Yerevan must avoid falling into this or another camp in conditions of long-term tensions between Washington and Tehran, as well as to work actively with the allies. Escalation of tensions can effect situation in Karabakh", political analyst Alen Gevondyan told Sputnik Armenia.
"The region, according to Gevondyan, is under the effect of different risks and threats. the processes are fast and sometimes it is hard to react in time. The South Caucasus is a part of the Bigger Middle East. Both, Armenia and Azerbaijan are bordering Iran, so any developments around Iran will effect Armenia too", said Gevondyan.
At the same time, he reminds the factor of Israel: "On the other side, we have to bear in mind close military-political and technical ties between Azerbaijan and Israel. There is unoficcial information that Israel is using Azerbaijan's territory for intelligence purposes against Iran". According to Gevondyan, in such a context Armenia has to achieve predictability in relations with her allies, first of all Russia and CSTO. Armenia must work with them for adequate reaction in different situations. As for Yerevan's foreign policy, Gevondyan considers it balanced enough. "The United States are our important partner, but Iran is not less important. Therefore, Yerevan must avoid falling into this or another camp", the analyst said.
